Itchy Scalp: What causes it?
Statistics tell us that one in five Americans suffer from an itchy scalp condition, which can be mildly to incredibly annoying and may be caused by any of several reasons.
When you say itchy scalp, most people assume that this is caused by dandruff (white flaking and dryness), which is true in a lot of cases but this is only one of the reasons. It can also be caused by psoriasis (a chronic scaling and inflammation of the skin) or by seborrheic dermatitis (sensitivity to the presence of excessive skin yeasts), head lice or even sunburn.
Sometimes an itchy scalp may be caused by something as simple as poor hair hygiene or a reaction to a hair product such as a colorant or a procedure performed on the hair such as a perm etc.
So before buying an over the counter medication or hair product for dandruff, consider what exactly your symptoms are and seek a specific remedy for your condition.
