Do Men Prefer Long or Short Hair?

It is an eternal question isn’t it, ‘What Men Want’, so one survey tried to find out what kind of hair the guys liked best. Thousands of men were surveyed to produce the result that the top kind of hair favored by men is the long, wavy kind such as the style sported by Sheryl Crowe and Kelly Brook.

“Long hair is traditionally strongly linked to femininity which we’re sure is the reason that almost half of men have singled out this long, thick, wavy hair as their number one sexiest style”, according to one of the people involved in the survey.

What is ironical however, is that this natural looking, long and wavy style is the one that is perhaps the most high maintenance and the one that takes the most time and effort to achieve! The straight, long, look such as the one sported by Jennifer Anniston is the second most popular kind of look among the guys. Here is the list:

1 – Long and wavy (Cheryl Cole)

2 – Long and straight (Jennifer Aniston)

3 – Classic bob (Kym Marsh)

4 – Mid-length straight (Gwyneth Paltrow)

5 – Pixie Crop (Agyness Deyn)

6 – Long bob (Chanelle)

7 – Bowl cut (Katie Holmes)

8 – Beehive (Brigitte Bardot)

9 – Mid-length waved/curled (Halle Berry)

Tips to Color Hair at Home

If the coming festive season is prompting you to color your hair and you want to do it yourself at home, then there are some things that you should keep in mind.

Don’t make too drastic a color change a black to blond change for instance is best left to the pros.

Make sure your hair in not freshly washed. Color your hair a minimum of 24 to 36 hours after your last shampoo. Also wait for a minimum of 24 hours after coloring to wash your hair again, so that the color has time to settle.

Make sure you wear protective clothing like an old smock or at least wrap a towel or sheet around your shoulders. Although it says on the package ‘non-drip’, the odd drip may be inevitable.

Apply Vaseline on your forehead and all around the hair line so that the color does not stain your skin; after all you don’t want to color your skin only your hair.

Begin with well combed, tangle free hair. It is a good idea to comb out your strands while you are coloring as well, since this helps spread the hair color better.

If you have long hair, start with two packs; you don’t want to run out of product half way through the proceedings.

Underarm Hair Growth Retardant?

Now if there is one topic that is almost never mentioned in polite company, it would have to be underarms; the one area of human anatomy that is usually considered rather unsavory. As for underarm hair; that would be beyond the pale!

What has brought this topic to the fore, is new developments being made in the area of deodorants. Now this is a deodorant developed by Unilever for their Dove and Sure ranges which has a ‘pro-epil complex’ which claims to gradually make underarm hair finer and noticeably slow down the rate of growth.

Murray Bisschop, senior deodorant category manager at Unilever has been quoted as saying, “We are really excited to be opening up an entirely new segment in the deodorant category….. This gives women all the efficacy of Dove and Sure deodorants with an advanced added beauty benefit that no other deodorant brand currently offers. The pro-epil complex contains natural extracts and it is critically important for Unilever not to launch anything that is potentially risky.”

Well it would be wonderful if the underarm area could permanently be rendered hairless, but that is not what the deo claims to do. It isn’t as if you won’t need to wax or shave the area again, but the company does claim that this will reduce skin irritation caused by hair regrowth.

Some Hair Tips Ahead of the Festive Season

With the festive season not too far away, you may decide to do something with your hair. Here are some tips to make a bright statement this festive season.

Check for discounts: Some salons offer festive discounts during this season. Or there may be a discount on a package, so it may make sense to go in for hair color along with a cut, or combine another hair treatment with say a pedicure or a facial. So ask for any discounts that the salon may be offering this festive season.

Change your Look: It could be something that you can do at home, such as adding a few highlights to your hair, or giving yourself a brighter tint, that can transform your look and also oodles of confidence. A shorter do or even a slight change in your hair (layering it for instance) can make you look totally different.

Pamper yourself: The holidays are a great excuse to pamper yourself with a spa treatment for your hair, which does the job of relaxing you and rejuvenating your hair! Or just get a head massage, it stimulates the scalp and feels great too.

The Virtual Toupee

On the internet, hair style sites which give you an idea of how you would look with a particular hair style abound. You can upload your picture to take a look at whether a particular hair style would suit your face or not. However, most of these sites are female centric; if you are a guy, you would be hard pressed to find a similar site which gives you the fun option of seeing yourself with different hair styles.

Hairtry.jp however is one exception to what seems to be a female dominated sphere. This site lets you upload a 2D photo and then processes it for 3D, adding facial gestures and eyeballs that follow your mouse around as you navigate the site. You then have the choice of adding and experimenting with all kinds of different hair styles and virtual looks for yourself so that if you have a receding hair line, ahem, high forehead, you can check out how you can augment the situation by trying on a virtual toupee. And in case you want to see what you would look like with different eye glasses, that option is available here too!
