Tips to Color Hair at Home
If the coming festive season is prompting you to color your hair and you want to do it yourself at home, then there are some things that you should keep in mind.
Don’t make too drastic a color change a black to blond change for instance is best left to the pros.
Make sure your hair in not freshly washed. Color your hair a minimum of 24 to 36 hours after your last shampoo. Also wait for a minimum of 24 hours after coloring to wash your hair again, so that the color has time to settle.
Make sure you wear protective clothing like an old smock or at least wrap a towel or sheet around your shoulders. Although it says on the package ‘non-drip’, the odd drip may be inevitable.
Apply Vaseline on your forehead and all around the hair line so that the color does not stain your skin; after all you don’t want to color your skin only your hair.
Begin with well combed, tangle free hair. It is a good idea to comb out your strands while you are coloring as well, since this helps spread the hair color better.
If you have long hair, start with two packs; you don’t want to run out of product half way through the proceedings.
