Help for Frizzy Hair

For a while, frizziness was really in. We are however not in the 80s anymore so frizziness in hair is really not something a lot of us desire; more something that some of us are stuck with! Here are some easy, tried and tested remedies to keep that frizz in check:

  • Don’t blow dry too much; it can dry out hair and contribute to frizz.
  • Use an inexpensive pomade to smooth down hair. It can be mixed with water so it does not weigh down the hair.
  • If the frizz is a side effect of perming, coloring or other chemical treatment then the frizz is from hair damage and then you need to invest in some damage control such as deep conditioning treatments
  • Coarse hair responds well to ironing, which can curl or straighten the hair depending on what you want; but which definitely takes care of the frizz.
  • Always rinse with the coldest water you can stand after using a shampoo and conditioner for straight hair. The cold water “locks down” the hair cuticle and makes hair appear slicker, less frizzy.

New Trials in Hair Growth

San Diego biotechnology company Histogen has some promising news for those who are losing their hair. According to the company they have the preliminary results from an early-stage clinical trial that showed its experimental hair regrowth therapy, ReGenica, to have increased new hair growth and the thickness of existing hair in men after 12 weeks.

What is significant about the finding is that thin hair became thicker and this is important because even if the number of hairs cannot be increased, if their thickness of diameter can be increased, that would substantially increase the volume of the hair. Add to this the fact that some patients also exhibited an increase in the actual number of hairs by 15 to 20 %, and you have something that has the potential to be a breakthrough.

This new preparation is made up of a mixture of several proteins that are present in the early-stage embryo and help direct stem cells to become either hair, bone or blood, said Histogen Chief Executive Gail Naughton.

Diets and Hair Loss

We have talked about how you can eat healthy for healthy hair, and how poor nutrition could lead to fading and drying of hair and even premature graying.  Sometimes a crash diet could also have the same effect on the hair and also lead to hair loss.

An often over looked side effect of yoyo diets, crash diets and fad diets is that sufficient nutrients are not reaching your hair and skin.  Your body faces shortage of essential nutrients and vital supplies of energy to function appropriately leading to several problems including hair loss. Your metabolism as well as your body’s rhythm can be severely affected too by unmanaged dieting.

When we talk about crash diets we are talking about all other methods of rapid weight reduction, such as extreme exercising, sleep deprivation, pills and potions that supposedly make you lose weight etc. any and all of these could cause the kind of imbalances in your body that ultimately lead to hair loss.

So if you suffer from sudden and inexplicable hair loss, the culprit may not be far to find, it could be your new diet!

Vibrating Hair Brush

A convenient and simple way to massage your hair or rather your scalp is the Vibrating Hair Brush. What is this gadget? Well it is much like a regular hair brush, only it is battery operated and has an inbuilt mechanism that makes it vibrate while you comb your hair.

So while you comb your hair, you switch on the hair brush and set it to the intensity that you require so that you get a gentle but great feeling massage. The other side of the brush has a knobby structure, which can also be used for light massage on other parts of the body such as a sore neck or a bicep or a painful knee.

It is well known that massage of the scalp and head helps improve blood circulation to your scalp, and the hair follicles benefit from it. Regular and systematic massage of the scalp also helps to prevent unnecessary hair fall and can relax and calm you. Some experts believe that this can also keep headaches and migraines at bay.
