Virtual Hairstyles and Facial Hair for Men

We have discussed before how women can take a virtual look at themselves to see how they would look with a different hair style or hair colour; now let’s take a look at virtual hair makeovers for men; also for those men who want a change in terms of growing some facial hair.

If you go here, you will find guys can choose the colour of hair that they want: natural, blond, red, even violet, etc and the style; short long conservative etc. They claim to offer more than 8000 hairstyles and 53 colors which you can try out on your own or a model’s photo.

And that’s not all: you have a choice of looking to see what kind of facial hair will suit you before you go and grow any. Will a moustache suit you; is a full beard going to look good for you or should you go for a goatee? You get an answer to all these questions.

This is another site with a virtual salon for both men and women, which lets you upload photos, save looks and print them; even email them to a friend if you want a second opinion!

Emotional Difficulties of Hair Loss

We know that people who suffer from hair loss would give a lot to reverse the problem not only because their vanity suffered but for other, more significant emotional issues.

The results of a recently commissioned report found that a “significant minority” of people who underwent hair loss were found to be at risk of serious psychosocial consequences, including depression, anxiety, lower self-esteem and identity change.

Hair loss is a common problem however not much is known about its consequences and effect on people. What is not fully understood is the extent to which hair loss holds a negative perception in society which is why it is now suggested that people with this problem should be given access to therapy.

Out of 1,400 people questioned, a quarter of people with hair loss felt distressed when they looked in the mirror, 33% felt self-conscious, and almost 20% said they lacked confidence in social situations. Those polled said the condition would have a “significant risk” of damaging relationships and worried their sexual attractiveness would decrease as a result of it.

So perhaps there is more to hair loss than immediately meets the eye and solutions may be even more important for us to find.

Hair Competition

Remember the sixties and the bouffant hair style? Well the International Fantasy Hair Competition celebrated just that and a competition that attracted stylists and competitors from all over the US was held at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The proceeds went to the New Hampshire Food Bank.

The first prize went to Amaris Brown of Detroit and stylist Kevin Carter of the Detroit suburb Farmington Hills for the hair arrangement called “Proud Peacock,” a big spray of feathers with hair shaped into what looked like the bird dancing with its feathers spread out to attract his mate.

There was one style that involved a three foot cherry tree perched atop the contestant’s head to symbolize the strength and beauty of womanhood. There was also a hair suit on display as was a gigantic puffball of tufted hair clumps and chain mail.

To keep the complex dos aloft, the competitors suffered pain and also learned how to walk in a way that did not dislodge their creations off their heads.

It was a fun show which explored how very creative people can get with their tresses. An evening dedicated to hair and to hair art!
