Different Parts of the Body, Different Hair

Understanding the reason why body hair grows only to a certain length and no further, and the fact that the hair on the head never stops growing, also helps us understand how hair grows. The hair on a person’s forearms or legs never grows beyond a particular length, whereas, if you don’t get your head hair cut or if it does not actually fall out, there is no end to how long it can grow. Similarly a man’s facial hair will also grow and grow unless it is trimmed or shaved. This is why you have people setting world records for the longest beard or moustache or plait but none for longest arm hair or leg hair!

What controls hair length is the amount of time that the hair follicle is active. So the hair follicles on top of your head might be active growing hair (called the growth phase) for a year, then take a rest (the rest phase). When they take a rest, the hair falls out. So it is all about the ‘growth phase’ of hair which decides how long the hair grows. For people with hair difficulties, it is important to understand this ‘growth phase’ and the ‘rest phase’.

  1. I just want to know the cause of partial baldness of my hair in scalp, beard and pubic. I starts from a small circle then continuing to expand the baldness.
In my scalp, there were two partial baldness in rear side both near in my ears at about 5 CM in circumference. In my Chin, almost 10 CM wide and with adjacent of 5 CM hole like baldness.
