What Makes Hair Curly?
Scientists have found the main gene that makes hair curly, according to recent reports. It is identified that the trichohyalin gene is responsible not only for development of the hair follicle but also for determining whether you will have straight or curly hair.
There is a definite racial propensity to straight or curly hair. While Oriental people such as the Chinese and Japanese seem to have straight hair only, statistics have shown that 45% of European people have straight hair, 40% have wavy hair and 15% have curly hair.
And now it would seem that curly hair or straight hair is almost wholly a matter of inherited traits and it is the hair follicle that determines whether you will have straight or curly hair. The hair follicle below the scalp has a hooked end in people with curly hair. The more hook the follicle has, the curlier the hair is. Those with straight hair have hair follicles with no hooks.
