Stem Cell Therapy for Hair Loss?
In recent times, stem cell therapy is a buzzword for all manner of ailments, so it is any wonder that this fascination for stem cell therapy is carried over into cures for hair loss?
In fact the possible use of stem cells to repair or even reverse hair loss is a much studied subject these days. The way that stem cells can be used to correct hair loss is like this: when cells of the scalp that are responsible for hair generation are destroyed or die due to any reason, the same happens to their capacity to regenerate or produce hair. So in theory, if those dead cells are replaced with new cells, that should effectively cause the hair to start growing again. It is the hair follicles that are sought to be targeted so that they start to regenerate hair.
As of now research and studies are ongoing to see how this new therapy can be used to reverse hair fall at the root so to speak, and some studies have even met with limited success with mice, however there are no conclusive findings or therapies available at this time.
