Hair Straightener Said to Contain Formaldehyde
One of the recent hair straightening treatments that has gained a big following in recent times has been the Brazilian Blowout hair treatment, which promises to de-frizz hair, make it sleek and more manageable for up to 5 months.
However this treatment has recently been in the news for all the wrong reasons – a recent test of the product was carried out, following complaints that it was causing salon workers to experience eye irritation, nose bleeds and breathing problems. The lab tests revealed that the product contained very significant amounts of formaldehyde, when the claim made by manufacturers is that the product is completely formaldehyde free.
At this time, the manufactures are stoutly denying charges of their product containing formaldehyde, which is a probable carcinogen and a chemical known to have other health hazards. On the other hand, the testing agency stands by their finding. Clearly more testing is required to find what the truth is, but in the mean time it is better to exercise caution, and be careful about hair straightening solutions that you may be using.
