Formaldehyde in Hair Straightening Products Causing Alarm
A stop sale order has been placed on as many as 10 hair straightening products because they were seen to contain unacceptably high quantities of formaldehyde.
These are products such as the very popular Brazilian Blowout and so on, which are typically available for salon treatments rather than for sale to general public. These hair straightening products have had side effects such as watery eyes, throat and breathing difficulties and even hair loss, as well as other symptoms that are generally associated with exposure to formaldehyde.
Consumer complaints have been filed against these products, with as many as 30 adverse reaction accounts having been reported. In the event Health Canada has issued an order, requiring service providers to stop using the products forthwith. The list of products that are to be avoided are –
