Hair Loss Meds Sexual Side Effects Could Persist
We have spoken before, about the possible side effects of hair loss medications and new research reported by Web MD tells
us that the sexual
side effects may persist even after the drugs are discontinued.
It is the medications that shrink enlarged prostates and treat male pattern baldness (called 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors) that are thought to have the side effect of sexual dysfunction due to their use since they block the action of the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), an androgen that’s more potent than its precursor, testosterone.
Manufacturers have always claimed that these side effects are temporary, and will disappear when the person stops taking the medicine. However the new study points out that the side effects of sexual problems could persist even after the person stops taking the drug.
It is hair loss medications such as Avodart, Propecia, and Proscar which could be responsible for side effects such as loss of sex drive, depression, anxiety, erectile dysfunctions, growth of male breasts, and also problems with fertility. There is the apprehension that these side effects could be persistent or irreversible.
