New Cap Device Could Help With Chemo Related Hair Loss
Cancer is a difficult and painful thing at the best of times. when you add to that the treatment of chemotherapy that can have debilitating side effects and even hair loss, the quality of life of a person can greatly suffer.
Now however a new scalp cooling device may offer hope to cancer sufferers who undergo chemo and hair loss and consequent loss of self confidence and esteem and prevent the emotional and psychological stress.
Principally aimed at Stage 1 breast cancer patients, this device will help women undergoing chemotherapy, to retain their hair. It consists of a tight-fitting silicone cap placed directly on the head, and an outer neoprene cap that insulates and secures the inner one. The cap is connected to a cooling and control unit with touch–screen controls. The design leaves the ears uncovered.
This device lowers the temperature of the scalp over a 20 to 30 minute period, causing blood vessels there to contract and arrest hair loss.
