Post Breakup Hair? What is That?

It is something that women demand after having undergone a relationship breakup – a very drastic change in hair, look, image, that stylists are calling Post Breakup Hair!

It is about wanting an image makeover; to feel renewed and revitalized giving up the old image as well as old associations. A significant change such as this one, can make a person feel younger, more attractive, more positive and better equipped to make a new start in life.

Experts recommend that to get the ideal “Break up Hair” the new style should be skimming the shoulder or shorter and should have a lot of movement as well as vibrant color. The aim should be to appear bold and vibrant, but to stop short of alarming. If it’s red you aim for, let the red interplay with your regular color. And remember a gleaming jet black or a rich chocolate brown can be as striking!

To get that drastic change may not be possible for all of us, particularly those located in smaller towns. So if need be, get an appointment with one of the top salons, even if it means taking a trip out of town. Sometimes the really upscale salons can make quite a difference!

Top Tips for African American Hair Care

The kind of hair that African Americans have is very different in nature from the kind that people of European descent have, and so it needs to be cared for differently as well. Here are the top tips for African American hair care –

  • Wash hair once a week at least. It is a myth that not washing hair will prevent hair from drying out. Not washing hair will clog pores and weaken the hair shaft and have the opposite of a beneficial effect.
  • Limit use of hair relaxers because they can weaken the hair shaft and cause it to break. It is a fact that African American hair can have a thinner shaft, making it more prone to breakage. So don’t aim for perfectly straight when you use hair relaxers.
  • Don’t over process the hair, because this also causes damage and hence breakage. Also be gentle on your hair avoiding cornrows or tight braiding if possible.
  • Take care of your hair and understand its nature by using appropriate products, even if it means questioning or going against the conventional wisdom that one was brought up with.

Summer Hair Care Tips

The summer heat and direct exposure to sunshine can be brutal for skin and hair alike. It can cause dryness, dullness and damage which can however be prevented by using the following tips –

> Protect hair from direct exposure to the sun by wearing a stylish hat, a jaunty scarf or other headgear.

> Use hair products with built in UV protection – some conditioners or hair creams come equipped with UV filters.

> Condition hair unfailingly. Stressed or damaged hair can benefit from some TLC, so be sure to use a conditioner regularly. Consider going for regular deep conditioning treatments as well.

> If you go swimming, be sure to wear a proper cap that protects your hair not only from the sun but from the swimming pool chlorine – another thing that can wreak havoc on your tresses.

> For the time being lessen use of curling irons and straightening irons so that hair is less stressed.

> Drink plenty of water – it is good for keeping hydrated your skin and your hair as well.

> Trim your hair regularly to get rid of split ends and rats’ tails that can be more common in summer.
