Bad Hair Day?

Bad hair days are a reality for all of us, even those of us who appear in glossy magazines with their hair seemingly perfectly coiffed. Only difference is they have a lot of help and most of us don’t.

Here are some tips to help you keep those bad hair days to a minimum –

Clarifying Shampoo – A major reason for suffering bad hair days is product build up. Using a clarifying shampoo will help get rid of product build up that can make hair look dull and lifeless.

Lemon Juice – Many experts recommend this for getting rid of dandruff but what it can also do is get rid of that product build up.

Baking soda – This is a home remedy for everything from yeast infections to teeth stains. If you add it to your clarifying shampoo it will better cleanse your hair.

The Up-do – On a bad hair day, the up do will really come in handy – the fact that it will keep you cool and help you look poised and smart is just a plus!

Headgear – Hats can be excellent fashion accessories and on a bad hair day, they can be a lifesaver. The fact that they will help keep your ears warm is a plus.

Tips to Control Summer Frizz

Come summer and hair tends to really misbehave – frizz and untidiness tends to creep into the hair due to the humidity and the sun’s harsh rays don’t help a bit!

Here are some tips that may help you keep the frizz in the hair down to a minimum –

1. Condition, condition, condition. Don’t shampoo without following it up with a smoothing conditioner – this helps combat dryness as well as frizz, letting you style and manage your hair better.

2. Use a silicone containing serum for the hair (but be careful not to overuse as this can cause product build up)

3. Use a hair dryer to style hair into control. Air drying gives your hair the time to dry any which way and then you have that dreaded frizz!

4. Check the kind of hair brush you use; some of them tend to encourage frizz.

5. Get your frizz out of the way by learning a few sleek updos. With the hair tied up or away from the face, you’ll remain cooler and appear sleeker.

Diet to Prevent Hair Loss

There are things you can eat to prevent hair loss at least to an extent. So eat the following to try and keep hair fall to the minimum-

  • Oats have zinc, iron and omega-6 fatty acids, nutrients essential for good hair
  • Walnuts have the most omega6, the B vitamins and protein
  • Eggs are packed with goodness
  • Fatty fish such as salmon – a great source of healthy oil, Vitamin B12 and iron
  • Swiss Chard helps contend with brittle hair prone to breakage because of its biotin content
  • Low fat dairy is also great for the hair because of the calcium and protein it contains. The whey and casein in products such as skim milk, yoghurt, cottage cheese and so on are great for the hair
  • Oysters and shrimp – these wonders of the sea also contain nutrients good for the hair
  • Flaxseeds are known to promote scalp health and growth of hair

If you eat healthy, with the accent on fresh produce rather than canned, processed or preservative laden food, you know that you’ve done your bit to encourage hair growth. As for your genes; well there’s little you can do about those!
