Aminexil – Product Review Part 1

One of the more popular hair loss medications used today is Aminexil which is a chemical compound similar to Minoxidil; but is termed as an N-oxide. Aminexil, a patented molecule technology that has been created by L’Oreal laboratories, is a widely used cure for hair loss.

It is thought that Aminexil works to prevent hair loss by preventing the stiffening and premature aging of hair roots which is a known culprit in hair loss. The stiffening is known to constrict blood vessels reducing the nourishment that the hair receives.

The benefits of Aminexil are –

  • It is an effective antidote to hair loss by slowing down and reducing hair loss.
  • It also helps grow new hair.
  • The results from this treatment may be quicker than certain others such as Rogaine. Also if one has previously not responded to Rogaine treatment, this treatment may work.
  • The positive impact of the treatment can be seen all over the scalp, including the areas in the front of the scalp.
  • It is easy to use – you spritz your scalp with the sprays and rub it in. this is to be done twice a day.

Minoxidil – Product Review Part 2

We looked at some of the positive points of Minoxidil in our last post, today we look at some of the limitations of this hair loss cure product –

  • The effects of increasing hair growth is not seen immediately but about 4 to 6 months after you start using Minoxidil
  • Also the effect is temporary and lasts only so long as you keep using the product. As soon as you discontinue, your hair growth reverts to what it was before
  • Its efficacy is limited to certain people and certain kinds of hair loss
  • There can be many unwanted side effects such as allergic reactions, flaking, peeling, dandruff, rashes, acne and so on. Paradoxically Minoxidil could also cause rather than cure hair loss in some cases
  • There could also be some very serious side effects in some cases – irregular heart rate, low blood pressure, and in rare cases breathing difficulties.
  • There is evidence to show that Minoxidil could contribute to erectile dysfunction and loss of sex drive.
  • For women Minoxidil could address hair loss but may also have the less fortunate side effect of thickening and darkening of body hair.
