Facial Hair Removal Methods

Hair on the women’s face is fine by nature and the skin is more delicate and sensitive than most other body parts. Hence the hair removal methods need to be carefully chosen:

While permanent facial hair removal can be achieved through laser if you have considerably thicker hair growth than normal, if hair is fine and light colored, laser may not work well for you.

Looking first at the overall hair growth on the face; if the hair on your forehead, upper lip and cheeks is considerably fine, it is advisable to not try methods such as waxing or threading. These methods tend to wake up the dormant hair follicles and thus lead to an initial increase in hair growth. In such a situations you are advised to use a mild bleach to make your hair invisible and non-apparent.

Bleaching is not a method of hair removal, but works well to give a hairless appearance by lightening the color of the hair to match with the skin. Bleaching does have its long term harmful effects. Regular use of bleach tends to darken the skin tone in the long run. Some people may also be allergic to the strong chemicals contained in the bleach. The strong burning sensation felt on the skin should give you some indication of what the skin is going through during the procedure.

Following are hair removal methods suitable to specific parts of the face:

Upper lip: Waxing would be your best bet here. Threading is also a common method used for removal of hair on the upper lip, but the rubbing of the thread against the skin causes the skin to darken over a long term period. Also, threading can be extremely painful.

Cheeks / Side locks: Waxing is amongst the better options for this part. Threading would be too painful. But waxing is known to give rise to boils and pimples on the cheeks to some people after the treatment. You can try this a couple of times. If your skin does not erupt into small pimples or boils and the method suits you, you can go ahead with it. Another drawback could be the incessant pulling every month might make your cheeks sag sooner than later.

Eyebrow: A brow wax suits most people. You could also consider using a tweezer to pull out hair growing out of line in between your brow wax sessions to increase the gap between sessions and keep you looking cleaner for more days. Using a tweezer to pluck out hair is not painful as perceived. You just need to hold the surrounding skin taut and you will almost not even fell the prick. Some people only use a tweezer to keep their brows in shape.

Forehead: If you have noticeable hair on your forehead, a threading session may work the best for you. Threading on the forehead is relatively less painful and a convenient and quick method to remove hair.
